Best Time to Visit

• November – February — perfect (20–30 °C). Peak season.
• October & March — pleasant.
• June – September — heavy monsoon. Mumbai’s monsoon is iconic but the city floods often.
• Aug-Sept — Ganesh Chaturthi (10 days) is the biggest Mumbai festival.

Top Attractions

Gateway of India & Taj Mahal Hotel

Built in 1924 to commemorate King George V’s visit. The 26-m basalt arch at the city’s harbour is Mumbai’s most iconic landmark. Across the road is the magnificent 1903 Taj Mahal Palace Hotel — a story in itself.

Marine Drive (Queen’s Necklace)

3.6-km curved boulevard along the Arabian Sea — at night, the streetlights look like a string of pearls. Walk south from Nariman Point to Chowpatty Beach at sunset.

Elephanta Caves (UNESCO)

1-hour ferry from the Gateway. 6th-century rock-cut Hindu caves dedicated to Lord Shiva — the 6-m three-headed Trimurti sculpture is one of India’s most powerful art works.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST)

UNESCO-listed Victorian Gothic railway station (1887) — one of the busiest in the world (3+ million passengers daily) and an architectural marvel.

Dhobi Ghat

The world’s largest open-air laundry — 700 washermen scrubbing 100,000+ clothes a day. Best view from Mahalaxmi Bridge.

Bandra-Worli Sea Link & Bandra

The 5.6-km cable-stayed bridge across Mahim Bay. Bandra is Mumbai’s coolest neighbourhood — Bandstand promenade, Mount Mary Church, Pali Naka cafés, Bollywood star bungalows (Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat).

Bollywood Studio Tour

Several studios offer behind-the-scenes tours — Film City Goregaon, Mehboob Studios, Filmistan. Great for Bollywood fans.

Haji Ali Dargah, Siddhivinayak, Mount Mary

Mumbai’s spiritual landmarks — the floating Haji Ali shrine, the iconic Siddhivinayak Ganesh temple (Tuesday is busiest), and Mount Mary Basilica in Bandra.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (Prince of Wales Museum)

Mumbai’s premier museum — Indian art, miniature paintings, Indus Valley artifacts in a beautiful Indo-Saracenic building.

How to Reach

By Air

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) — India’s 2nd-busiest. Both T1 (domestic) and T2 (international, gorgeous architecture).

By Rail

Multiple major terminals: Mumbai CST, Mumbai Central, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Bandra Terminus. Local suburban trains carry 7.5 million passengers daily.

By Road

Pune 150 km (3 hr Expressway), Goa 600 km (10 hr or Konkan Railway), Aurangabad 350 km (7 hr). The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is one of India’s best.

Travel Tips

• 2–3 days for the highlights, 4–5 days to slow down
• Stay in South Mumbai (Colaba, Fort, Marine Drive) for heritage walking, or Bandra for cool café scene
• Use Mumbai Local trains (off-peak only) — cheapest, fastest. Avoid 8–10 AM and 5–8 PM.
• Uber and Ola are reliable; metered black-and-yellow taxis are iconic but slower
• Carry water and electrolytes — Mumbai humidity is brutal Apr–Oct
• Avoid driving — parking is a nightmare
• For monsoon: book hotels in higher-elevation areas (Bandra, Andheri) — South Mumbai floods
• Book Elephanta ferry early — last return at 5:30 PM
