Top Attractions

Charminar

The iconic 1591 monument at the heart of Old City — built by Quli Qutb Shah to commemorate the end of plague. The 4 minarets (each 56 m) and the open archway frame the bustling bazaar around it. Climb up for sunset views over the old city.

Golconda Fort

11 km from Charminar — one of the most magnificent fort complexes in India. Built between the 12th–17th centuries on a 400-ft granite hill, with 4 distinct citadels and the famous acoustic system (clap at the gateway → heard at the top of the citadel). The 6 PM Sound & Light Show (in English on Wed/Sat) tells the fort’s tragic love story.

Qutb Shahi Tombs

1 km from Golconda — 7 royal tombs of the Qutb Shahi dynasty in a single massive necropolis. Indo-Persian architecture with bulbous domes, intricate jali screens. Restored beautifully in recent years by Aga Khan Trust. Stunning at sunrise.

Chowmahalla Palace

The official seat of the Asaf Jahi (Nizam) dynasty — 4 palace complexes in one. The Khilwat Mubarak (Durbar Hall) has 19 Belgian crystal chandeliers. Old vintage cars, royal photographs, and the fascinating history of “the world’s richest man” (Mir Osman Ali Khan, 7th Nizam).

Salar Jung Museum

One of the largest one-man art collections in the world — 38,000 artifacts gathered by Mir Yousuf Ali Khan (Salar Jung III). The famous Veiled Rebecca sculpture, ivory furniture, ancient manuscripts, weapons, and the famous musical clock that draws crowds at noon.

Hussain Sagar Lake & Buddha Statue

The 16th-century lake separating Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Centerpiece is the 18-m monolithic Gautam Buddha statue (the largest single-stone Buddha in the world) on Gibraltar Rock in the middle of the lake. Boat rides available.

Ramoji Film City

30 km from city — the world’s largest integrated film studio (recognised by Guinness). Tour includes movie sets, action shows, theme rides, restaurants. Best for kids and Bollywood/Tollywood fans.

Hi-Tech City & Cyberabad

The IT cluster — Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook all have major campuses. The Hi-Tec City Metro station and Inorbit Mall area are the modern face.

Mecca Masjid

One of the largest mosques in India — built by Quli Qutb Shah’s grandson, completed by Aurangzeb in 1694. Capacity: 10,000 worshippers.

Birla Mandir & Birla Planetarium

The white-marble Birla Mandir (1976) atop Naubat Pahad with sweeping city views. Adjacent planetarium and science museum.

Falaknuma Palace (now Taj hotel)

The “mirror of the sky” — perched 600 ft above the city. Now a Taj heritage hotel; you can dine at Adaa restaurant or take the heritage tour.

Multiple terminals: Secunderabad (SC), Hyderabad Deccan (HYB), Kacheguda (KCG). Direct trains to Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai. The Hyderabad-Mumbai Vande Bharat is fastest.

By Road

Bangalore 575 km (10 hr), Chennai 630 km (12 hr), Mumbai 720 km (14 hr). The Hyderabad Metro covers most of the city.
