About Kashmir
Kashmir — the legendary “Paradise on Earth”. Snow-capped peaks ringed by Mughal gardens, willow-fringed lakes filled with shikaras, alpine meadows where time slows down, and saffron fields glowing pink in autumn. Best Time to Visit
- April – June — peak season. Tulip Garden in bloom (Mar/Apr), pleasant 15–30 °C, lakes at their best.
- July – September — Amarnath yatra season & lush green meadows of Sonmarg, Pahalgam.
- October – November — autumn gold of Chinar trees, saffron harvest in Pampore.
- December – February — heavy snow. Skiing in Gulmarg, frozen Dal Lake, magical winter wonderland.
Where to Go
Srinagar — The Floating City
The summer capital — built around the iconic Dal Lake with its ringed houseboats and shikara rides. Also home to four spectacular Mughal gardens.

Pahalgam — Valley of Shepherds

The “Gateway to Ladakh” — alpine meadows under glaciers and the gushing Sindh river. Pony rides to Thajiwas Glacier are a must.
Doodhpathri, Yusmarg & Gurez Valley
Less-visited Kashmir — meadows of milk, gushing streams, and untouched border valleys for travellers who want to escape the crowds.
Kashmiri Cuisine — Wazwan
The legendary Wazwan is a multi-course feast of up to 36 dishes — most of them slow-cooked meats. Don’t miss:
- Rogan Josh — slow-cooked lamb in red Kashmiri chillies
- Yakhni — yoghurt-based mild lamb curry
- Gushtaba — minced-mutton meatballs in spiced yoghurt (the “King of Wazwan”)
- Tabak Maaz — fried lamb ribs
- Dum Aloo Kashmiri — spiced baby potatoes
- Kashmiri Pulao — saffron rice with dry fruits
- Noon Chai (Kahwa & Sheer Chai) — saffron–almond green tea, the staple Kashmiri beverage
- Kashmiri Dum Aloo & Haakh saag for vegetarians
How to Reach
By Air
Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (SXR), Srinagar with daily flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata.
By Rail
Closest railhead is Jammu Tawi (JAT). From there it’s a scenic 7–8 hr drive over the Banihal-Jawahar tunnel to Srinagar.
By Road
NH-44 from Jammu to Srinagar (270 km, 7–8 hr). The Mughal Road via Shopian is open in summer. We strongly recommend chauffeur-driven SUV — winter conditions need experienced mountain drivers. See our fleet.
