About the tour

About the Golden Triangle

The Golden Triangle is one of India’s most iconic and popular travel routes — a magical loop connecting Delhi, Agra and Jaipur that takes you straight into the ancient, fascinating, decadent and passionate world of the Mughals and Rajputs. It is a journey from the historic era to the modern era, woven through narrow alleyways selling spices and silks, gigantic forts and palaces, vibrant bazaars, and traditional local cuisines.

From the love capital Agra with the enigmatic Taj Mahal at its heart, to the splendour of Fatehpur Sikri, to Jaipur’s pink-city architecture and royal cuisine — the Golden Triangle delivers a complete experience of India’s ancient and modern wonders in a single week. Old deserted cities, impressive architecture, prehistoric forts, ancient art and multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites along the way.

Best Time to Visit

India has four distinct seasons, but the ideal time to experience the Golden Triangle is October to March, when temperatures are pleasant and the cities are at their festive best. October to December is especially magical — Diwali in Delhi, elephant rides in Jaipur, and boating in Agra with the Taj Mahal in the backdrop.

April to June brings harsh summer temperatures above 45 °C, but it is also when wildlife in Ranthambore comes out to water sources. Late June to September is the monsoon — fewer crowds, lush green landscapes and great for budget travel, with the smell of wet earth on long highway drives.

Cities You’ll Visit

Delhi — Past Meets Present

Delhi is the perfect introduction to India — a city where centuries-old monuments stand alongside modern metro lines and tech hubs. From the labyrinth of Old Delhi (Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli spice market, Jama Masjid) to the wide boulevards of New Delhi (India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb, Connaught Place), Delhi offers history at every corner. The capital is a symbol of India’s rich Mughal past and its modern present.

Must-Visit in Delhi

  • Red Fort — UNESCO World Heritage site, the Mughal seat of power
  • Qutub Minar — 72 m tower built in 1193 AD (UNESCO)
  • Humayun’s Tomb — the architectural inspiration for the Taj Mahal
  • Jama Masjid — India’s largest mosque, holds 25,000 worshippers
  • India Gate — war memorial and a beloved evening hangout
  • Lotus Temple — iconic Bahá’í House of Worship
  • Gurudwara Bangla Sahib — peaceful Sikh shrine with the holy sarovar
  • Purana Qila — Delhi’s oldest fort
  • Akshardham Temple — modern wonder of Indian architecture
  • National Museum & Gandhi Smriti

Local Food in Delhi

Delhi’s street food is unforgettable. Try parathas at Paranthe Wali Gali (Chandni Chowk), butter chicken at Moti Mahal Daryaganj, kebabs at Salim’s (Khan Market) or Ghalib Kebab Corner (Nizamuddin), chole bhature at Sitaram Diwan Chand (Paharganj), biryani at Al Kakori Al Kauser (RK Puram), and Karim’s legendary nihari near Jama Masjid. Don’t miss daulat ki chaat in winter mornings or hot momos at Majnu Ka Tilla.

Agra — Home of the Taj Mahal

Agra is built around the Taj Mahal — the white-marble UNESCO wonder that needs no introduction. But the city holds three UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Taj, the red sandstone Agra Fort (where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb with a final view of his beloved Mumtaz’s resting place), and the abandoned Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri founded by Akbar in 1569. On the banks of the Yamuna, Agra is where India’s pace slows into Mughal romance.

Don’t leave Agra without trying Bedai & jalebi at Devi Ram Sweets, paranthas at Rambabu Paranthe Wale, bhalla at Sadar Bazaar’s Chaat Wali Gali, rich Mughlai biryani, the savoury Dalmoth dry snack, and the city’s most iconic sweet — translucent petha from Panchhi Petha.

Jaipur — The Pink City

Welcome to Rajasthan — the “land of Maharajas” and the perfect close to the Golden Triangle. Painted pink in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales, Jaipur is colour, royalty, art and architecture in equal measure. Hawa Mahal’s 953 latticework windows, Amber Fort’s mirrored Sheesh Mahal, the City Palace’s royal collections, and Nahargarh Fort’s panoramic sunsets — Jaipur captures every traveller’s heart.

The bazaars overflow with handcrafted fabrics, silver jewellery, mojaris and traditional crafts in every imaginable colour — turbans with elephant prints, women’s bangles, and the unmistakable Rajasthani textiles. The cuisine, scented with traditional spices and royal recipes from the past, completes the experience.

How to Reach

By Air

The two main gateways are Delhi (DEL) — Indira Gandhi International Airport, India’s busiest, with direct flights from London, New York, Dubai, Singapore, Frankfurt and most major world cities — and Jaipur International Airport (JAI) with regional connections from Dubai, Muscat, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.

By Rail

The route is exceptionally well-connected. The Rajdhani Express is the fastest Delhi–Jaipur train, while the Ajmer Shatabdi covers the route in just 4 hours 20 minutes. Delhi to Agra is well-served too (Gatimaan Express, Shatabdi), but most travellers prefer to drive on the Yamuna Expressway.

By Road (Recommended)

  • Delhi → Agra: 233 km · 3.5–4 hours via the Yamuna Expressway
  • Agra → Jaipur: 238 km · 4–4.5 hours (with a Fatehpur Sikri stop en-route)
  • Jaipur → Delhi: 281 km · 4.5–5 hours via NH48

Most travellers do the Golden Triangle on a private chauffeur-driven car — far more comfortable than buses, with the freedom to stop at Fatehpur Sikri en-route. Our most popular choice is the Toyota Innova Crysta or the premium Toyota Fortuner — see Our Fleets for options.

Festivals Worth Planning Around

  • Taj Mahotsav, Agra — 2nd week of February at Shilpgram. 10 days of crafts, music and Mughal cuisine.
  • Jaipur Literature Festival — late January at Diggi Palace. The world’s largest free literary festival.
  • Kite Festival, Jaipur — 14 January. Skies fill with thousands of colourful kites.
  • Ram Barat, Agra — September–October. A grand traditional procession.
  • Diwali, Delhi — late October / early November. The whole capital sparkles with diyas and fireworks.
  • Kailash Fair, Agra — August–September at Kailash Temple, 12 km from Agra.
